NENA NG911 civic address fields
The NENA standard for civic addresses (CLDXF, NENA-STA-004) splits an address into fixed fields so 9-1-1 systems can match and route a call. Left: what this server parsed from your text. Right: the US Census Bureau’s reference for the same address.

How it works
- Parse. A small parser splits the address into NENA civic address fields (CLDXF, NENA-STA-004): number and number suffix, pre-directional, street name, type, post-directional, unit, city, state and ZIP. Commas are optional.
- Check. The Census geocoder matches the address against its address ranges. Its answer is the reference the parse is compared with.
- Locate. The match brings back the state, county, place and census tract; TIGERweb’s ArcGIS REST service gives the tract outline for the map.
- Describe. American Community Survey estimates for the tract, city and county, from Census Reporter.
Why NG911 cares
Next Generation 9-1-1 routes a call by matching its location to address points and road centerlines. An address split into the wrong fields can fail to match or route to the wrong place, so county and state datasets are checked field by field before they’re loaded.
