A live WZDx work-zone feed from an ArcGIS service

Reads New York State DOT’s oversize/overweight permitting data straight from an ArcGIS REST service, converts it to a U.S. DOT Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) 4.0 GeoJSON feed, and serves it in real time from an API endpoint.

Creating WZDx feeds from ArcGIS services (FME in Transportation SIG)

Why WZDx

The U.S. DOT’s Work Zone Data Exchange specification gives road owners and operators one common format for work-zone data, so third parties, navigation apps and automated driving systems can all read it.

How it works

  1. FME Server reads permit data directly from an ArcGIS REST service.
  2. The workspace maps each record to the WZDx schema.
  3. The result is served from an API endpoint, current as of the request.

I also served as a voting member of the U.S. DOT WZDx Worker Presence Subgroup.
